Dr. Gates grew up in Rockwall, TX, and always dreamed of being a veterinarian. She followed the family tradition and received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science at Texas A&M and went on to Oklahoma State University to complete her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
As a child, Dr. Gates made it her personal mission to catch any stray in the neighborhood and return them to their owners. Fortunately for her, Dr. Gates’ uncle is the veterinarian in her hometown. He made it clear that she needed to love science more than animals if she wanted to be a veterinarian. Dr. Gates was able to shadow her uncle in high school, and on her first day she witnessed an orthopedic surgery. She was amazed with how surgery significantly changed the quality of life of that dog and on that day fell in love with veterinary medicine.
As veterinarian, Dr. Gates tries to help people understand what is wrong with their pet and what can be done to help them. Whether it is explaining a disease process or the importance of preventative medicine, she wants to make sure that every pet owner understands how best to take care of their family member. As a (slightly obsessed) dog owner, Dr. Gates likes to treat each patient as if they were her own – with patience and compassion. Special interest include – internal medicine and behavior.
Outside of work, Dr. Gates spends her time two stepping at country concerts, taking her paddle board out on the lake, and biking with her dog, Howdy.
Dr. Gates is a certified Fear Free and Cat Friendly veterinarian.
Dr. Carlye Summers is a dedicated veterinarian who was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Her passion for caring for animals has been a driving force in her life. She embarked on her academic journey by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Benedict College in 2014, where she graduated from the School of Honors Summa Cum Laude.
Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Summers pursued her dream of becoming a veterinarian by enrolling at the Tuskegee College of Veterinary Medicine. During her time there, she gained valuable hands-on experience through a series of externships. These externships exposed her to various facets of veterinary medicine, including working at an exotic ranch, specializing in shelter medicine, contributing to a high-volume spay and neuter clinic, exploring the field of neurology, and assisting in emergency clinics.
In 2018, Dr. Summers achieved academic excellence once again by graduating Cum Laude with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tuskegee College of Veterinary Medicine. Her commitment to academic excellence and passion for veterinary medicine have been evident throughout her educational journey.
After completing her veterinary education, Dr. Summers decided to make Dallas, Texas her home. Currently, she works as a relief veterinarian, providing her expertise and care to various veterinary practices as needed. Her experience and dedication make her a valuable asset to Stonebridge Family Vet, where she continues to fulfill her lifelong passion for caring for animals.
